ABOUT ME
Step into my world! I'm Maria Paula Moya Lopez, but you can call me Palis. Join me as I unfold the vivid stories and exciting chapters of my life on this page.

I was born on August 8, 2001, in Ambato, Ecuador. My story began in the scenic landscapes of Ambato, Ecuador, where I took my first steps into the world of squash. From local tournaments to national, and international competitions, the vibrant courts of Ecuador witnessed my early strides in the sport. Fueled by a passion for squash and supported by my dedicated family, I improved my skills, laying the foundation for a promising athletic journey.

Embracing the opportunity for higher education and athletic growth, my path led me to Virginia, United States. I've woven my narrative through both the vibrant courts of Ecuador and the academic halls of Virginia. Here, I continue to pursue my studies and deepen my love for the exhilarating sport of squash.

Embarking on my athletic journey, the rhythm of squash captivated me from an early age, inspired by my older brother's dedication to sports. With daily practices supported by my unwavering parents, the squash court became the setting foundation for an exciting athletic career.

Proudly holding the title of Ecuadorian racquet number 1 since 2012, I was fortunate to secure a 100% athletic scholarship at the University of Virginia in the United States for five years. This journey has been a testament to the passion and dedication I bring to the game.

Balancing the demands of school and squash, I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia in 2023. Currently, I'm immersed in an Accelerated Master's Degree program at the McIntire School of Commerce, with an anticipated graduation in 2024. Life is a dynamic blend of textbooks and squash rackets.

In both the scholarly halls and on the squash court, my guiding mantra is, "Never give up, stay consistent, and surround yourself with good mentors." This philosophy has been the compass steering me through the challenges and triumphs of my dual life as a student-athlete.

Squash isn't just a sport to me; it's a passion that fuels my growth. Collaborating with coaches from diverse corners of the world, I've improved my skills, evolving into a versatile and adaptable squash player. Every opportunity for growth on the court is a step toward becoming the athlete I aspire to be.
